Digital Certificates
Service Description
Digital certificates provide a safe, secure way to authenticate a user's
identity. A digital certificate is an electronic credential used to verify the
identity of individuals involved in online transactions. Digital certificates
are issued within a legal policy and technical framework known as Public Key
Infrastructure (PKI). They provide the confidentiality, data integrity, and
non-repudiation required for secure electronic business transactions.
Customers who need secure government services use digital certificates on
Transact Washington™, the state's authentication gateway. Transact
Washington™ is an extension of the state's Internet portal,
Access Washington™. Services available around the clock through
Transact Washington™ include: paying for permits, maintaining records,
fulfilling reporting requirements or filing taxes, all in a single Internet
session. Agencies maintain control of their own applications while relying on
the gateway to manage identification and authentication.
