Enabled Voice Mail (EVM) frequently asked questions
How much disk storage space is needed for EVM messages?
A one-minute message uses about 100k. Most message mailboxes only allow up to a
three-minute message.
What happens to my voice mail messages if EVM is out of service?
The message is still accessible on SIMON using the telephone network.
What are the security concerns when implementing EVM?
EVM operates like a person sending an e-mail, except EVM attaches a .wav file to
the e-mail. There are agencies that use file type filters to block the receipt
of .wav files. Also, agencies must allow ActiveX content through their
firewalls and e-mail filters. These agencies would need to evaluate whether or
not the benefits of EVM would outweigh the risks.
Can any agency use EVM?
No, EVM is currently limited to DIS Olympia campus PBX customers who are part of
the state government network.
Can I setup EVM to deliver my voice mail to my home computer?
Yes, you can setup EVM to deliver to three different e-mail addresses; however,
EVM can only delete the message in your SIMON voice mailbox from an e-mail
address that is within the state government network, unless your Internet
service provider allows ActiveX content through their e-mail system.
Can we use the additional functionality of EVM such as calendar and contacts,
e-mail and mobilepath?
Other EVM products are being evaluated but cannot be made available until issues
related to security are resolved.
